If you want to use ns-2, you must begin to read the NS-2 documentation on ns-2 web site. And you can read in first the Marc Greis tutorial. Some interesting information are also exchanged on the mailing list. In brief, the useful links on NS are:

• NS Manual: user guide (You can retrieve a local copy (on Réunion Island) in date of march 2009 (.pdf))
  This document is the référence guide on the différents validated components inside this simulator. It is a good idea to know a little bit about this simulator before to use it.
